  • In two days (September 21st), all stories that are not in one of four categories will be deleted from the site in an effort to purge it of very bad quality stories. These four categories are:

The Quality Standards will be revised and made significantly stricter in addition to the purge.

There is a reason for this. Spin-off stories are generally held to a higher standard than original works; many of the ones here would fail the QS on our sister wiki.

Spinpasta should be holding spin-offs to this higher standard. You should be able to have a genuine shot at appealing your spin-off to the Creepypasta Wiki's spinoff appeal for it to meet the QS here - no, I'm not saying it should be guaranteed to make it. I'm saying that it should be good enough that it's actually a possibility.

That being said, if your story gets deleted and you feel that it would meet the revised QS you may post a Deletion Appeal once the purge has been completed and the new QS posted. If the story meets the new QS, it will be accepted and restored. You will also have the opportunity before the purge begins to have your story reviewed by an Administrator, and if the administrator deems that the story is good enough to stay it will be given the NoPurge category.

I realize that quite a few of you may not like this, but please be patient with us. If your story is good enough that it gets through the Deletion Appeal process, the increase in quality on site should help your story get more exposure as the removal of bad quality stories should help attract a community to the site.

The Purge will begin on September 30th.

    • This seems incredibly excessive. I am not sure how many stories you currently have on here (looks like over 600) but you only have about 50 stories that are in one of these three categories and, without checking, I am assuming some of these are doubles.

    • I'd like to request that my small collection of stories be retained, as most or all of them are well-received and have existing comments attached to them. A couple are in these categories already, but not all of them, and it would be a shame to lose the positive discussions in the comments.

I realize that it would be a problem if everyone asked for this, but it should be apparent at least that the people who respond here care about their work. Those who post here should at least merit an individualized review of their body of work, so that it's the forgotten or truly low-quality stuff that's purged.

    • I think this relates to the conversation that I have been having with you Tot

Provide me a list. I'll probably set things up a little more since this has been postponed until I'm not sick as fuck.

EDIT: Actually, Xel, since you still have your rights just add your stories to this category.

    • Hi, I'd like to request that "Baby Daddy Theory" be safe from the purge. It doesn't have comments on there, but I think it's somewhat decent enough that it deserves immunity.

If you don't want to, though, I understand.

    • This is...odd, to say the least.

    • Awelp, I thought I'd jump in with my two pennies as I was mentioned in a message and I want to clear up some slight confusion. While I do think that some stricter QS would help bring the overall quality up on the site and maybe bring some new life into it, I am concerned about an outright purge of most stories without verifying their quality as that's likely to hurt anyone who was active on the site.

It really doesn't sit right to delete stories without fully reading them as you're likely to delete the good with the bad and discourage the people who did post their stories here. I know it's more time-consuming, but I do think that Skel's approach was more beneficial on the video game pasta situation where he read and deleted stories accordingly. I took the same approach when working through the poetry section on CPW and while it did take longer, it helped a bit more while being fair to the people who put in the time as the poems where the author did put the time in still have an opportunity to be read/enjoyed.

I know I also turned down an offer to Admin on this wiki and help out and you may feel like this is the more efficient approach, but I feel like this is a situation where it's important to weigh in on something I feel could be detrimental to the site as a whole as I do think the Spinpasta wiki acts as a good place to get attention for your stories and work to improve them. As this wiki hosts about 659 stories, I understand that that's a lot to sort through, but deleting all but around sixty is likely going to hobble the wiki and discourage authors who have had their stories pulled without being read.

I think that a little more time is needed for more people to weigh in and a possible alternative approach to work on this. Maybe this wiki can enlist a group of people to weigh in on stories so the work is divided and easier to handle. Given that a video was brought to my attention, it seems like there are people who are willing to help out with some planning. As it seems that this post has gotten some people to weigh in that haven't been to the site lately, I think this might allow for a more open process. If need be, I can try to chip in a little. While I don't have the time to fully admin due to everything we talked about, I can sort through a section or two in my free time and mark for review or deletion if that helps.

    • I'm going to echo Emp's sentiments here a bit as well as add a my own spin to this conversation.

First, yes, I still agree that better QS will lead to better stories, which in turn can work to legitimize this Wiki as not just a dumping ground for stories that couldn't make it on Creepypasta Wiki. I also agree that a better defined mission statment will give this site a clearer purpose. I still believe that we can get there by fixing some of the flaws in our guidelines and focusing on a real, actionable QS revision.

However, I also believe in the importance of community in a wiki, and the impact that community support vs. community opposition can create. The people have spoken, and support for the purge approach is clearly nonexistent. I predict that making a move this drastic will lead to the very opposite results that we set out to achieve in revising this wiki. With traffic already low here, a move that is viewed in such an unpopular light will likely lead to the demise of this site.

We as admins cannot devalue the importance of the very community that we seek to enhance and promote. Therefore I cannot support the purge concept as it currently stands.

However, I still support you, and believe that the desire to improve and revitalize this wiki is in the interest of the writers and readers that make these communities flourish. With that being said, I am still here to assist you in anyway possible. I believe that we all need to simply circle back to the drawing board and compose a better set of ideas that the community can support.

    • Is there any way I can help you guys out with this wiki?

    • I would suggest looking over stories and if you see something that is in need of attention (Like one story titled W.I.P. whose only content was W.I.P.) you can mark it for review or bring it to an admin's attention. I've slowly been working my way through the stories and marking those that have problems that need to be addressed or need an admin to weigh in on.

      Yeah, I could do that.
