Howdy! So, after Stephen Hillenburg passed away, I watched every Spongebob episode, season by season. Season 1 to 11.
I just got done watching Season 7. Next was Season 8. Every disc worked expect Disc 3. The one with "Are You Happy Now?" I hadn't watched Are You Happy Now in a while. So after watching Friend or Foe again, I went over to the nearest DVD store and bought Season 8 again.
I skipped to Are You Happy Now and watched it.
The episode started at the Krusty Krab with Spongebob making patties, as usual, but with only a little of his charm.
Squidward said, "One Krabby Patty and Coral Bits" but a little more depressed.
Spongebob replied, "One Krabby Patty and Coral Bits right up!"
5 hours had passed, and their shift was over.
Spongebob was cleaning the grill and Squidward walked out from his spot. Mr. Krabs went over to the cash register to see how much cash he had collected. 80 dollars.
"Argh! 80 dollars, that's good!" said Mr. Krabs
Spongebob and Squidward were walking home together.
Squidward said, "Home again." with a depressed tone.
Spongebob asked, "Hey Squidward, are you ok?"
Squidward snapped, "Don't bother me."
It was the next day. Squidward wasn't there.
“Huh. Squidward isn’t here. Maybe he’s taking a day off,” said Spongebob
“NOBODY CAN TAKE A DAY OFF!” Krabs yelled at Spongebob in a much angrier tone than what was ever expected from Mr. Krabs in the show.
That really scared me considering I’ve never heard Krabs get that angry. The last time I could remember Krabs got angry at somebody was at Patrick in Rule of Dumb the episode where he’s is declared King.
Spongebob got really scared and quietly said, “M-Ma-Maybe, he's-si-ck!”
Krabs calmed down and said “Maybe.”
A timecard appeared and said “three minutes later...” in the usual French Narrator voice.
Krabs approached Spongebob and said “Hey Boyo! Could you check on Squidward?”
Spongebob replied “Yeah! Sure!”
This is where the episode took a dark turn.
Spongebob walked into Squidward’s house. He went up the stairs to see Squidward passed out.
The ambulance was called immediately and he was rushed to the hospital. It turns out Squidward had died in his sleep from being poisoned. By what I don’t know. The episode never explained. It was most likely from an urchin considering those are really poisonous if cooked badly.
The Doctor explained that Squidward had died a few hours before his work shift started.
They had a funeral with the following people attending. Spongebob, Sandy, Patrick, Gary (oddly), Plankton, Squidward’s Grandma, Karen, and the Doctor. The episode ended with silent credits.
