So, I just get back and I'm deleting shit stories that have been piling up on this brand new account that I made. I'm bored as hell, but I'm looking through Wikia Activity and I come across none other than this thread.
Not gonna lie, Maddie's Little Baby, one of the deleted stories, was mine. It was written about 3 years ago when I first starting writing for here. I'm also not gonna lie when I say that it went too far in that direction and it's not the first time I did it (There was another gorefic, a bit more violent and rapey, before we learned about the guidelines. It was a Phineas and Ferb fanfic I wrote out of boredom.) Maddie's Little Baby, at that point, was either forgotten about, or I just looked over it and didn't think too much into the subject.
But that said, let's get into the meat of this thread.
Hi, I've just deleted "Lil Miss Rarity" and "Maddie's Little Baby" because of their sadomasochist content. I realize that horror is part of this wiki, but extreme gore and violence, especially when there is a sexual element, goes too far for Wikia.
I see that you have other pages marked NSFW. Please can an admin look at these and remove any that contain torture porn or other extreme content.
Thank you
What gets me here is the use of "extreme." It's a rather subjective term, as has been discussed before, back in 2013 iirc. It bodes the question: Should we have regulations on site for NSFW works? Should NSFW stories be allowed? Should the ones we have be deleted even if they're only lightly NSFW?
Personally, I don't think they should be deleted on the basis of light NSFW. I'm a very anti-censorship person, particularly nowadays, and to start deleting works based on content alone kills the entire point of sites like this. It goes down a slippery slope about what can be found offensive or not. Is there a line of objectivity? Is the mere mention of a fetish NSFW or too far, or do you have to go into as much detail as I did with Maddie's Little Baby? Was my story the maximum extreme, or the minimum? I think I'll examine the quality of what we have and make my judgments based on quality for now, but I'm wondering: Should we have guidelines? If so, what should they be? If not, why not?
'Tis an objectively touchy subject indeed. NSFW works tend to be gorefics as is, and usually get deleted (on CPW, anyhow, hardly anyone is active here,) but of those few diamonds in the rough, is it worth not preserving them based on what's found offensive? Obviously, we have to follow Staff here, but where is the line to be drawn objectively? Discuss.
